Export ChatGPT to Markdown in one tap
Turn any ChatGPT conversation into a clean .md file - code blocks, tables, and formatting preserved. Drop it straight into Obsidian, Notion, Bear, or any knowledge tool.
Zero cleanup needed
Standard Markdown, any tool
PDF is for sharing.
Markdown is for thinking.
When you export a ChatGPT conversation to Markdown, it becomes a living document - one you can edit, link to other notes, tag, search, and build on over time.
It's the format that connects your AI sessions to your knowledge tools. If you use Obsidian, Notion, Roam, Bear, LogSeq, VS Code, or GitHub, Markdown export is where ChatGPT becomes a true knowledge partner rather than just a chat window.
Editable
Plain text you can modify, annotate, and extend.
Linkable
Add [[backlinks]] and tags to connect AI sessions to your knowledge graph.
Searchable
Full-text search across all your exported sessions - offline, instantly.
Tool-agnostic
Works in every standard Markdown tool - now and in the future.
Every element correctly converted - no cleanup required
A ChatExport Markdown export is valid, clean, standard Markdown - not a raw HTML dump or a messy mixed format.
Renders correctly in Obsidian, Notion, Bear, VS Code, GitHub - any standard Markdown renderer.

In Notion, use Import → Markdown to bring in the .md file. Headings, code blocks, lists, and tables all import correctly. Move it to the relevant page or database.
Bear
Use the Files share sheet to open the .md file with Bear. It imports as a new note with full formatting. Add tags to categorise it alongside your existing notes.
VS Code / GitHub
Drop the .md file directly into your project folder. Code blocks render with syntax highlighting in VS Code's preview. Commit to GitHub for team-accessible documentation.
What you lose when you copy-paste
Code blocks become plain text
Language, indentation, and structure are lost.
Tables collapse into a mess of pipes
You spend more time reformatting than writing.
Nesting disappears
Nested lists become flat, losing their hierarchy.
Images don't paste at all
DALL·E images and charts are simply missing.
What you keep with a Markdown export
Fenced code blocks with language ID
Renders with syntax highlighting in any standard tool.
Proper pipe table syntax
Column alignment preserved. Paste in and it's done.
Nested list structure intact
Hierarchy preserved exactly as it appeared in the conversation.
Image references included
Markdown image syntax with alt text - renders inline in supporting tools.
Turn every ChatGPT session into a searchable knowledge asset
The most powerful use of Markdown export is systematic: export every high-value ChatGPT session to Markdown, organise by topic or project, and build a searchable library of AI-assisted thinking. After three months of this habit, you have a knowledge base that reflects your specific work - something no template library can replicate.
ChatExport's built-in full-text search works across all your saved Markdown files, so finding the right conversation later is instant - offline, no account needed.

I've built a second brain from my ChatGPT sessions. Export, tag, link. Three months in and I have hundreds of structured notes - all from one tap in the share sheet.
Michael Rodriguez
I commit ChatGPT architecture discussions straight to GitHub docs as Markdown. The fenced code blocks render beautifully - exactly what I needed.

Copy-pasting from ChatGPT into Notion was destroying the formatting. One tap in ChatExport and the Markdown import is flawless - tables, lists, everything.
David Park
VS Code preview, Bear notes, iA Writer - I use different tools for different projects. The Markdown output from ChatExport works perfectly in all of them.
Amanda Wilson
The privacy matters to me. I export research sessions with sensitive client context and nothing leaves my phone. That's non-negotiable.
Sarah Mitchell
I export every ChatGPT session to Markdown now. After six months I have a genuinely useful knowledge base built entirely from AI conversations.
Robert Kumar
Tried three other apps. ChatExport is the only one that produces actually clean Markdown. No weird HTML artifacts, no broken tables. Just valid .md.
