Use the built-in share button in the ChatGPT iPhone app to export any conversation to PDF, Markdown, HTML, or TXT — in seconds, entirely on-device.
No computer. No browser extension. No cloud upload. Just tap share, choose ChatExport, pick your format.
ChatGPT's share feature creates a link — not a file. Here's what that means for you.
ChatGPT's "Share Link" doesn't export a file. You get a URL that anyone can view — but you can't save it as a PDF or Markdown document without a third-party tool.
If OpenAI changes its URL structure, or you delete the conversation in ChatGPT, the shared link stops working. A file on your device is permanent.
The shared link shows the chat in ChatGPT's own layout. You can't get a clean PDF, a Markdown file for Obsidian, or a plain TXT transcript without exporting properly.
ChatExport bridges the gap.
Tap Share in ChatGPT → open in ChatExport → export to any format. Your conversation becomes a proper document, stored on your iPhone, no cloud required.
Eight steps. Under a minute from first tap to saved file.
Launch ChatGPT from your home screen. Make sure you're signed into your account.
Tap the conversation from your chat list. It will open in full-screen view.
Look for the upload/arrow icon at the top-right of the conversation screen — it sits next to the edit pencil icon. Tap it to open sharing options.
ChatGPT generates a public URL for your conversation. The iOS share sheet then appears with your installed apps.
Find ChatExport in the share sheet and tap it (or tap "Open in ChatExport" if it appears as a menu option). If ChatExport isn't visible, scroll the app row or tap "More".
ChatExport opens and fetches your full conversation from the link — including all messages, code blocks, lists, and formatting. No copy-paste needed.
Select from four export formats depending on your use case:
Your exported file is ready. Save it to the iPhone Files app, iCloud Drive, or share it directly to Mail, Slack, WhatsApp, Notion, or any other app.
The share link gets your conversation into ChatExport. ChatExport turns it into a document you actually own.
All processing happens on your iPhone. Your conversations never pass through any ChatExport server. Full privacy, always.
Code blocks, tables, bullet points, bold and italic text — all preserved in PDF and HTML. Markdown exports use proper syntax for Obsidian and Notion.
Tap share in ChatGPT, tap ChatExport — your conversation is imported and ready to export in under 5 seconds. No manual steps or copy-pasting.
PDF, Markdown, HTML, and TXT — each optimised for different workflows. Switch between formats any time, from the same imported conversation.
Every imported conversation is saved locally on your iPhone. Access them anytime — even offline. Export again in a different format whenever you need.
Download ChatExport and start exporting immediately. No sign-up, no subscription required to get started. Your data stays yours.
